There are many different types of carpet cleaning methods that you can use to keep your carpets clean and hygienic.
Carpet Cleaning Methods
There are two main types of carpet cleaning methods, dry and wet.
Wet carpet cleaning is the most common method and the one that most do it yourselfers will choose. Those rental machines at the grocery stores, those are wet cleaning machines. With this method, a solution is applied to the carpet and then sucked back up with a warm water rinse.
Dry cleaning is the second most common method. where a vacuum cleaner is used to suck up dirt, dust, hair, and other debris from the floor and then it is cleaned with a chemical-based solution.
The benefit to wet cleaning is that it generally removes the most soil. On the flip side, it also leaves your carpet the wettest. With dry cleaning, you can have carpets dry in about an hour, but it tends to remove less soil than a wet cleaning.
Maintain Your Carpets On A Regular Basis
Carpets can get dirty and smelly over time. It is important to take care of them on a regular basis.
If you are cleaning your own carpets, we recommend that you clean your carpets once every three months or so. You should also make sure that you vacuum them at least once per week. If you want to do it more often, then it is fine too.
For those of you who have your carpet professionally cleaned, you should do so at least once a year. You should still vacuum at least once a week as well.
The reason that you need to clean your carpet more often if you do it yourself is due to the lack of efficiency of a home system. You can not expect a 500 dollar home carpet cleaner to clean as well as a 15,000 dollar professional system.
Should You Clean Your Carpet Yourself
DIY carpet cleaning is a very tough task. Home cleaning systems are generally under-powered and small, meaning that it takes a very long time to clean a home carpet. Additionally, without professional cleaning solutions, it can be tough to get most stains out.
Professional carpet cleaners can be expensive, but they can also do a better job than DIY cleaners. Where it might take you all day to clean a home carpet, a pro can do it in about 90 minutes. They will also have access to a long list of cleaners that can handle just about any stain.
The choice to use a professional versus a DIY method usually comes down to money. If you have more money than time, go with a professional. If you have more time than money, clean it yourself. Just be sure to use a quality rental cleaning unit and follow directions.
