Cheap Vacation Ideas

Going on vacation does not have to break the bank, even if you have a family. If you and yours are in the need of some relaxation time, let’s look at a few inexpensive ideas. 3 places you can go for fun that will not empty your bank account.

1) Family Camping

There is something so right about taking your family camping, evenĀ  if you do not like to camp or have no experience at it. If you want to have a good time and make some memories, camping should be top of your list. This is especially true if you are on a tight budget like so many are these days.

Most camping sites at state and national parks are in the 10 to 20 dollars a night range, which is quite affordable. You can even find some with running water and electricity for that price, which is a score for those who would rather glamp than camp. The only major expense to camping is some of the gear, but there is a solution for that, buy used.

Before investing in new camping gear, check the local classified listings on Facebook or Craigslist. Camping gear has a notoriously low resale rate so you can pick up tents, camping chairs, portable stoves and other gear for pennies on the dollar. If you find you like camping, keep it. Otherwise, you can just sell your gear when the trip is over.

If you find yourself unsure about what to bring, check out out camping supply list, which should be helpful.

All in all, a family should be able to spend 2 to 3 days camping for less than a couple hundred dollars. That puts camping at the top of our list for quality family time on a budget.

2) Groupon or Living Social Trips

Of course Groupon purchased Living Social, so these two things are really the same. Let’s get that out of the way in case you didn’t know, because there is no longer a need to check both sites, just pick your favorite.

Whichever website you choose, you will find a number of vacation packages and room deals to choose from. If you are not specific about what you and your family does for a good time, scoring a great deal should not be difficult.

With Groupon or Living Social, you can find deals on all parts of your vacation. Shop hotels, rental cars and restaurants in your destination city. For best results, check these websites often and look in multiple cities.

3) The Classic Staycation

We had to go there. Yes, the word Staycation has been very overused, but that does not mean that it is not a valid option for a family on a budget.

The great thing about enjoying your home town is that the two biggest vacation expenses are free. Without having to pay for a hotel room or transportation, you can allocate hundreds of extra dollars to the main goal, having fun.

When planning one of these vacations, your need to get into the right mental space if you want to have a good time. You must take a look at your city from the eyes of a tourist. If you only had a few days in your city, what would you do? You might be surprised at just how many enjoyable attractions there are in or very near where you live.
